You Mad or Nah?
Why don’t we ever talk about Angry Jesus?
We have to question a faith that hardly ever wrestles with the idea of an angry Jesus and the reasons for His anger. Somehow Angry Jesus doesn’t fit the narrative necessary to help pacify the masses and maintain social order.
If we were to study and understand the things that made Jesus mad …
If we were to put together the imagery of Angry Jesus alongside the words of James Baldwin who said, “To be Negro in this country and relatively conscious is to be in a rage almost all the time”…
If we were to really hear and understand the words and the motives of the villain, Eric Killmonger originally known as N’ja-daka son of Prince N’jobu in the movie “Black Panther” — we might get angry too, get empowered and then things might get dangerous. We might even get free.
So, why don’t we talk about Angry Jesus?
