Healing Intergenerational Trauma
Trauma is the strong emotional response to stressful events or conditions that threaten one’s life or well-being. Intergenerational or Historical Trauma is the term used to describe how it can be passed down from generation to generation. In the context of life-altering events such as wars, ongoing violence or race-based oppression, specific groups can experience sustained emotional responses such as depression, anxiety, anger, sadness and so forth. When left unaddressed over long periods of time these emotional responses can lend themselves to mental and physical unwellness and diminished quality of life. Healing this kind of trauma now is important for us and for future generations. After all, when you heal yourself, you heal your lineage to come.
