Make Room for Healing
I was a panelist for “The World We Make 2021 - Reimagining Race and Well-Being: From Public Health Threat to Flourishing” hosted by the Center for Healthy Minds featuring US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy and NPR radio host of “On Being,” Krista Tippett. I got to speak on the work I’ve done at Imani Community Church to create space for those who have experienced personal or collective trauma. The framework I’ve employed puts healing, not trauma, at the forefront of the conversation and digs deep into our faith and cultural strengths to bring forth tools we can use to work toward healing. Jesus came that we might have life and that in abundance (John 10:10). That means well-being every area of our lives — mind, body and soul — is part and parcel of what Jesus wants for each of us. We just have to make room for it.
